A suspected robber was killed by one of his accomplices during a botched bank robbery here on Wednesday. The incident took place at a local bank situated in Ali Pur, within the Koral police precincts.
Police quoted the bank officials as saying that a person entered the Habib Bank Limited Ali Pur branch on Wednesday morning and that a guard overpowered him after he found his movements “suspicious”.
Police said when Mehtab Shah, the guard who had nabbed that man, and a police constable Muhammad Arshad were frisking the suspect, some of his suspected accomplices, standing outside the bank, opened gunfire. Police said one of the bullets hit the nabbed man in the head of that man and he died on the spot. Continuing shooting, the suspects rode away in a grey Suzuki Mehran.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Muhammad Yousuf Malik and SP (Rural) Faisal Bashir Memon reached the crime scene and oversaw the preliminary investigation. The body of alleged robber was taken to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for an autopsy and DNA tests. The SSP constituted two teams headed by SP (Rural) Faial Bashir Memon and SP CIA Ch Liaqat Ali to nab the absconding criminals. Police were looking for the runaway suspects when this report was filed.
