Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ahmad Raza Tahir, who is also Lahore Drug Free City Project chairman, has said an effective and pragmatic methodology would be adopted to uproot the scourge of drug dealing in Lahore. The CCPO said that during the months of January to October Lahore Police had launched a special campaign against drug dealers in which 9,156 cases had been registered, 9,517culprits had been arrested, while 339 kg heroin, 971 kg chars, 432 kg opium, 141 kg hashish, 657 intoxicating pills, 2,008 injections and 58,455 bottles of liquor had been recovered from the possession of criminals. Tahir directed police officers to ensure eradication of drug dens in the city, warning of action against the officers under whose jurisdictions drug dens were found. The CCPO was talking to representatives of various non-governmental organisations (NGOs) related to the anti-narcotics campaign, in his office. The Drug Free City Project Focal Person and Discipline and Inspection Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shariq Kamal was also present on the occasion.
Tahir said enforcement teams had been constituted, which would work under the supervision of Superintendents of Police (SP), Station House Officers, the Anti-Narcotics Force, Excise Inspector and Drugs Inspector to eliminate drug dens from the provincial capital. He said Lahore Police, in coordination with the Anti-Narcotics Force, were determined to achieve the objectives of the Drug Free City Project. Tahir further directed intensification of the crackdown against drug peddlers, so that Lahore could be rid of the curse of narcotics. The CCPO said the elimination of drug peddling was a top priority of Lahore Police.
CCPO ISSUES ORDERS FOR FOUR TRANSFERS AND POSTINGS: CCPO Ahmad Raza Tahir has issued orders of transfer and posting of four DSPs with immediate effect, including Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) Muhammad Mumtaz from DSP Data Darbar to SDPO Naulakha, DSP Shams-ul-Haq from DSP Security Division to Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Township, DSP Muhammad Mansha SDPO Township to DSP Security Division, whereas DSP Malik Munzoor from SDPO Naulakha to DSP Mobiles Civil Lines. MAN COMMITS SUICIDE: A 50-year-old allegedly committed suicide after suffering losses in business in the Sandha Police Station jurisdiction on Monday. Abdul Nasir committed suicide at his house located in Raj Gargh. The family of the deceased claimed that Abdul Nasir had suffered a big loss in his business, after which he ate poisonous pills. As soon as the family got to know, they took Nasir to Mayo Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police shifted the body to the dead house for autopsy.
