CM deems Zardari behind memogate

Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shahbaz Sharif has said the memo sent to Mike Mullen is a conspiracy against the sovereignty, security and defence of Pakistan, adding that the disclosure of this conspiracy had shocked every Pakistani. In a statement here on Sunday, the CM said it appeared that the person occupying the highest office was the real architect of this conspiracy. Shahbaz said the explanatory statement of the president with regard to the memo had further supported the allegations levelled against the government in this regard. Moreover, how any diplomat could dare write such a memo to the American army chief on his own accord was a valid concern. Likewise, he said, this incident could not be isolated from Zardari’s track record with regard to the sovereignty and integrity of Pakistan. He said Zardari had hurt the sensibilities of millions of Pakistanis by writing a congratulatory letter to America after the sad incident of Abbotabad.
Shahbaz said the memogate issue did not only pertain to the civilian government and the Pakistan Army – rather, it affected each Pakistani. He said the delaying tactics being used in the investigation of the incident also proved that the government was responsible for this crime. The CM said the Muslim League-N leadership would not allow anyone to play with the country’s sovereignty, adding that they would safeguard the honour of the armed forces and Pakistan’s defence at every cost.
