The prices of vegetables and fruits remained stable at Sunday bazaars while that of chicken decreased. The City District Government Lahore booked a number of shopkeepers for overcharging, collected Rs 3,000 in fine and closed down one stall. The prices of tomatoes, green pepper and stored-potatoes decreased while those of ginger, garlic, green chilies and lemon increased. The prices of new potatoes, onion, spinach, and carrot and lady finger remained stable. In fruits, the prices of apples increased and the prices of bananas and guava remained stable.
The prices of chicken decreased and it was available for Rs 152 per kg. The price of fish ranged from Rs200-350 per kg.
The consumers complained about the overcharging by the shopkeepers and said that the CDGL was not doing enough.
“The vendors are not displaying the price lists and are over-charging,” said a customer Amir Hanif at Green Town Sunday bazaar adding he complained to the market committee but no action was taken.
Another customer Kashif Mehmood said it has become a routine in Sunday bazaars that the vendors try to hide actual prices and there is no monitoring of these vendors.
Despite complaints by the customers, the CDGL only booked a few vendors for overcharging. The CDGL officials collected Rs 3,000 in fine from vendors of Moon Market and Model Town Sunday bazaars. It also warned five shopkeepers for selling sub-standard fruits and vegetables.
