NUST graduates awarded degrees

As many as 145 students of National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) on Saturday were awarded degrees in the disciplines of telecom and software engineering at the 20th convocation.
The ceremony was held at Military College of Signals (MCS) which functions under the administrative control of NUST. NUST Rector Engr Muhammad Asghar graced the ceremony as the chief guest. Outshining students were awarded medals.
President’s gold medals were awarded to NUST Cadet Hassan bin Tila (course TE-44) and NUST cadet Samia Ahmed (course BESE-13). Chief of army staff’s gold medal was received by Capt Abdullah Buzdar (course Te-44) while NUST cadet Mahnum Maqsood (TCC-19) and NUST cadet Rameez Lehrasib Rehman (BESE-13) were awarded rector’s gold medals for their outstanding performance.
Speaking on the occasion, the rector extended his felicitations to the faculty, graduating students and their parents. The chief guest said it was a very special day for the graduating students as they were stepping into the vast world of science and technology as professional engineers.
“Engineering profession is synonymous with creativity, which makes it distinct from all other professions. After graduation, young engineers become an international commodity because their activities will be confined not only to one place but their scope also stretches to each and every corner of the world,” he said. He advised the students to live with this pride and deep-rooted aspiration that they had to excel and cope with the fast changing world by readily introducing themselves to the new technologies and other scientific advancements. He further emphasised that students should know that these technologies are burgeoning frontiers which, if investigated and explored with the truest spirit of inquiry, can open up innumerable technological advancements for the progress of the nation.
Counting achievements of the university, Engr Muhammad Asghar said the farsighted vision of NUST had given a new direction to scientific education and research in the country.
“The university’s collaboration with reputed foreign universities and linkage with local industries is contributing significantly to national scientific and technical landscape,” he claimed.
Commandant of the college, Maj-Gen Shahid Maqbool, presented the annual report and highlighted achievements of the institution in terms of curricular and co-curricular activities, quantitative and qualitative increase in the faculty, improvement of physical facilities and upgradation of learning resources.
