Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Friday gave a detailed briefing to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif regarding implementation of the action plan for promotion of sports activities in the province.
Speaking on the occasion, Nawaz said that only healthy minds constitute a healthy society, therefore, promotion of healthy activities is of vital importance. He said that sports play an important role in grooming the personality of youngsters and polishing their talent, therefore, there is a need for promotion of sports activities with participation of the private sector. He said that all grounds of Iqbal Park should be improved for providing sports opportunities to the younger generation.
Nawaz said that the Punjab additional chief secretary, LDA DG, Punjab Sports DG and former cricketer Aamir Sohail, who recently joined the PML-N, should evolve a comprehensive strategy with mutual consultation in light of which rapid progress should be made for promotion of sports activities.
Shahbaz said that more than 100 playgrounds of international standards were being constructed in the city while sites have also been identified for construction of more grounds. He said that the first women cricket academy of the country has been set up in Lahore while the private sector has also been included in the promotion of sports activities.
