Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani has said that the matter of memo will be taken to its logical end by ensuring national interests, while former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-N President Nawaz Sharif asked the government to investigate the (memo) issue.
Ambassador Hussain Hqqani has been summoned to explain the whole issue, Prime Minister Gilani said while talking to journalists at the wedding ceremony of the son of Khyber Pakhtunkwa Governor Barrister Masood Kausar on Saturday.
He said that Ambassador Haqqani has been summoned to give an explanation to the leadership. “It will be unjust and against norms of justice to jump to conclusion without listening views of the ambassador,” the prime minister said.
While speaking with journalists in Mundara, Nawaz Sharif said that the memo issue should be probed, and the National Assembly could conduct the inquiry which should be completed within ten days. “This (memo) issue cannot be ignored,” he said.
The PML-N leader suggested that former judges could also be included in the commission which would investigate the issue. He also commented on the Senate elections and said they should be held on time.
On the other hand, Prime Minister Gilani rejected the impression that there was any difference between political and military leadership. “We are a responsible government,” he said, adding that the military leadership explained certain defence-related issues before the Parliament for the first time.
He also said that there was no problem for the coalition government as it had working relationship with other national institutions. Any step contrary to the law and constitution would not be acceptable, he said, adding that the opposition has certain legal options to remove of the government. He said there is total understanding and harmony among the institutions.

  1. Mr. Sharif wants the inquiry to be completed in ten days. He also wants former judges to be included in the inquiry committee. Perhaps former chief justice of Punjab, Khwaja Sharif and perhaps also Rafiq Tarar and the like. It appears as if he has got his new ‘sherwani’ ready. But not this time Mr. Sharif, not this time. The military seldom uses a fired-off cartouche.
