Dengue counters, wards shut down

Following a considerable decline in the number of dengue patients, the special counters for dengue have been removed, while wards reserved for dengue patients in District Headquarters hospitals had been shut down, Health Executive District Officer Dr Munir Ahmad confirmed on Monday. He said the provision of free treatment and diagnostic facilities would continue, however, due to the decreases number of dengue patients, the counters had been removed.
He said the Health Department would observe “Mother and Child Health Awareness Week” from November 21 to November 26. During the week lady health workers and visitors would vaccinate children under the age of two against various diseases, including polio, while children between ages two and five would be given medicine for stomach worms, and the expecting women would be provided iron and vitamin tablets.
