Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed on Thursday took oath as the new chief justice (CJ) of the Lahore High Court (LHC). Punjab Governor Latif Khosa administered the oath at a ceremony at the Governor’s House. Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif, Punjab Assembly (PA) Speaker Rana Iqbal, provincial ministers, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leaders, LHC judges, provincial secretaries and a large number of lawyers were also present.
PAF DELEGATION CALLS ON KHOSA: Separately, a 50-member delegation of Pakistan Air Force (PAF) War College officers called on the governor at the Governor’s House. The delegation was led by Air Vice-Marshal Azhar Hassan and consisted of participants of first year war course from Pakistan and allied countries such as Saudi Arabia, China, Bangladesh, Jordan, Nigeria, Sri Lanka and Malaysia. During the meeting, the delegation discussed matters pertaining to social, cultural, political and economic milieu of the province and the law and order situation in Punjab. Talking to the delegation, Khosa said that the ideal law and order situation did not exist in the world, adding that all countries were faced with the challenge of law and order in one way or the other.
Stressing the need for education, the governor said that education was vital for the country to revisit the past grandeur and compete with developed countries. Lauding the role of the armed forces in the war against terror, Khosa said that the army had rendered unparalleled sacrifices in the war against terror. He said that Pakistan wanted trade with India on an equal footing, adding that Pakistan sought concessions in trade, which would benefit our industry.
