The Islamabad High Court (IHC) disposed off on Thursday a petition filed against the director’s generals of country’s spy agencies for illegally harassing an activist of Hizb ut-Tahrir and a principal of a private school, Zaheer Khan. The court took the decision after an assurance from the deputy attorney general (DAG) that the petitioner would not be harassed in future. On fear of a possible abduction by the spy agencies, Zaheer Khan, had filed a petition in the IHC to avoid “any mishap” with him. He had cited the director generals of Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) and Military Intelligence (MI) and Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Islamabad as respondents in his petition.
A single member bench comprising Justice Riaz Ahmad Khan was hearing the case in which the petitioner through his counsel, Umer Hayat Sandhu, had contended that he was running a school in the federal capital and was enjoying a good reputation but the spy agency officials were harassing him without any justification.
His counsel said that Zaheer was also implicated by the police in a false case on October 17, 2009 under Section-7 11 (F), ATA, but was later acquitted by an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Rawalpindi. Deputy Attorney General Abid Raja appeared before the court on behalf of spy agencies had told the court that Zaheer was neither harassed by the intelligence agencies nor he was threatened. He stated that the petitioner had filed a case on “false assumptions”. Raja, however, assured the court that petitioner would not be harassed by the agencies in future.
