UHS issues MBBS selection list

The University of Health Sciences (UHS) has displayed the selection lists of candidates to be admitted in MBBS in 11 public sector medical colleges of the Punjab on open merit basis. The lists which are available on UHS’ website www.uhs.edu.pk, were displayed after a division bench of the Lahore High Court on Tuesday dismissed the petitions filed by some candidates challenging the entrance test weightage criteria of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council for admission to medical and dental colleges of the country. A UHS spokesman said merit was higher this year as compared to the last. A total of 6,717 applications were received, from October 5 to October 15, from eligible candidates for admission against 2,842 open merit, 61 under-developed districts and 20 disabled candidates’ seats. The merit list was prepared giving a weightage of 10 percent to matriculation, 40 percent to intermediate and 50 percent to entrance test marks, according to the criteria laid down by PMDC. The spokesman further said a total of 76 candidates applied for admission against 20 seats reserved for disabled students whereas 578 candidates applied for admission against 61 seats reserved for the students of 6 under-developed districts of Punjab including Muzzafargarh, Rajanpur, Lodhran, Bhakkar, Layyah and DG Khan. The selected candidates would be issued call letters for interview by concerned colleges. The classes in medical colleges would commence on November 28.
