Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Qaim Ali Shah has rejected the allegation of Shah Mehmood Qureshi, saying that he had not tried to restrain the former foreign minister from visiting Garhi Khuda Bux in Larkana. Qureshi had told the media that when he had arrived in Sindh after quitting the foreign ministry due to differences with the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leadership, his scheduled visit to Benazir Bhutto’s mazar had to be cancelled after CM’s private secretary advised him not to go there. However, in a statement issued on Tuesday, the CM – who is also the PPP Sindh President – contradicted Qureshi’s claim, saying that the allegation was baseless and fabricated. “The government would have restrained Qureshi from entering the province if it had wanted to stop him from going to Garhi Khuda Bux,” said a spokesperson of the CM. He said the present PPP government is a democratic government that does not believe in dictatorial measures.
NURSERY: Qureshi had started his political career from “the nursery of Ziaul Haq’s martial law” and has returned to the same place, said PPP Karachi President Najmi Alam during a press conference held at the People’s Secretariat. Alam said, “It’s strange that the same PPP and President Asif Ali Zardari were good for Qureshi while he was the foreign minister, but everything changed after the ministry was taken back.”
