Federal secretary visits Lok Virsa

Faridullah Khan, the federal secretary of the newly created Ministry of National Heritage and Integration visited Lok Virsa here at Shakarparian on Wednesday. He was welcomed by Lok Virsa’s Executive Director Khalid Javaid and other senior officials. They briefed the guest about salient features of the department’s work. The secretary also visited the first ethnological museum of Pakistan, popularly known as the Heritage Museum. The facility showcases the contemporary folk culture and lifestyles of the people representing various regions. Khan took keen interest in different artifacts put on display at the museum, particularly sections such as Hall of Ballads and Romances, Hall of Sufis and Shrines.
The secretary was informed that Lok Virsa was a storehouse of folk literature orally passed down from generation-to-generation. Later, the secretary chaired a meeting of Lok Virsa officers wherein he was given a formal presentation on the administrative structure, legal status, important projects and landmark achievements of Lok Virsa since its inception in 1974. A glimpse of activities carried out by the institute for the last three years was particularly presented in the meeting. The secretary appreciated the performance of Lok Virsa and pledged his full support to the institute.
