And the Make-A-Wish Foundation Pakistan’s ‘International Impact Award-2010’ for helping to grant wishes of 50 Pakistani children goes to US Ambassador to Pakistan Cameron Munter. This was announced at the Wish Leader Conference held in Dublin, Ireland, where over 200 Make-A-Wish delegates from 50 countries – including Pakistan – attended the ceremony. A statement issued on Monday by US Consulate-Karachi Public Affairs Section stated that the award was presented to Munter for the US government’s support in granting the wishes of 50 Pakistani children with life-threatening illnesses.
In September 2011, USAID – through the US Ambassador’s Fund – had supported the Make-A-Wish Foundation Pakistan with a grant to support the fulfillment of the wishes. The foundation – an affiliate of Make-A-Wish Foundation International – has 200 volunteers operating in hospitals throughout Pakistan helping identify children with life-threatening diseases so that they can be supported by granting their most cherished wishes. The Make-A-Wish Foundation Pakistan is primarily funded via private, non-governmental contributions.
Following the conferring of the International Impact Award, US Ambassador to Pakistan presided over the grant of additional three wishes, which included a dollhouse, a toy motorcycle and a television, to children with critical ailments. In addition to the award, the Make-A-Wish Foundation Pakistan also presented Ambassador Munter and his wife, Dr Marilyn Wyatt, with certificates of appreciation.
