With the removal of Sadiq Ali Memon as the Sindh Prisons Minister on Monday, the ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has started reshuffling the provincial cabinet. Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah has removed Memon from his office and temporarily handed over the charge of the Prisons Department to Law Minister Ayaz Soomro. This change is a result of a PPP meeting recently held in Karachi with President Asif Ali Zardari in chair. The participants of that meeting had decided to make changes in the provincial cabinet and the party’s organisation as part of preparations for the upcoming general elections.
According to sources, more changes in the Sindh cabinet are expected in the next few days. Moreover, sources added, some important changes would also be made in the PPP’s organisation, including the Karachi division. It was decided in the meeting that the party’s vacant posts at district and tehsil levels would also be filled soon. Additionally, the PPP leaders also decided to activate the inactive office-bearers and take disciplinary action against party leaders and members of the provincial assembly found to be violating the party’s discipline.
