Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan on Sunday constituted a committee to scrutinise the assets of parliamentarians, PTI leaders and politicians interested in joining the party.
Khan announced the formation of the investigative committee at a press conference held after a meeting of the PTI CEC. He said the committee would be headed by PTI Vice President Hamid Khan, and a team of former NAB investigators, retired army officers and lawyers would assist him.
“The scrutiny committee will look for assets obtain through corruption and all politicians, including those in the PTI, will be scrutinised,” the PTI chief said. He added that the CEC had decided to file an application in the NAB to investigate the “illegal” awarding of a contract to M/s Karkay Karandiz Company, which is owned by a close relative of the prime minister, for installing a power generation plant in Karachi.
He claimed that the company had been questioned by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), however the government had “illegally” issued 14 percent payment in advance. Khan further alleged that the government, while awarding the contract, had approved higher tariff. “The cost of the plant is $130 million and under the contract the company will earn $540 million in five years… It will be a test case for NAB to probe this scam,” Khan said.
He announced that in the near future, the PTI would hold a massive rally in Karachi. “Karachi’s gathering would be bigger than the PTI’s recent rally in Lahore,” Khan claimed.
Khan said the CEC had decided to continue party interaction with political entities against the status quo. He said the ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had been trying to preserve the status quo.
“My party will welcome everyone to join… but it will not award ticket to anyone corrupt,” he announced, adding, “My party will welcome all new entrants, but they will be routed through the authorised party channels only.” He said the PTI would file two separate petitions in the Supreme Court for the registration of voters in accordance with their permanent addresses and for registration of votes of the overseas Pakistanis.
To a query, Khan said the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) was not an independent body. He said the ECP had so far failed in holding a free, fair and transparent election.
Talking about the next general elections, he said, “All attempts to hold fraudulent elections in the country will be thwarted…if the next elections are rigged, then the PTI will bring the entire country to a standstill.”
Khan said the military would not exert control over the government if it had moral strength. He said a corrupt leader would always bow to the military. “If I faced any undue interference after coming into power, I would prefer to step down and once again go to the people,” he vowed.

  1. This is a very good start and is highly appreciated. Besides Karachi public gatherings in Quetta and Peshawar need to be held in the near future.

The move to form such committees and sub-committees is welcomed and will be highly approved by the public.

    Continued

  2. Your comments about the Army stem from the fear known to the people who have researched this topic and are well aware of the causes and the background of intervention by the army. But to malign an intuition in this way is beyond common logic. The actions of an individual must not be made grounds to drag an institution through the mud.

It also becomes highly objectionable when politicians start to discuss domestic issues relating to the armed forces of Pakistan with foreign dignitaries. To discuss an institution of Pakistan as a standalone structure from the rest of the government is, as said before, a grave error of judgement. Every country in the world has its problems. Therefore I have to say as follows:

Gentlemen in politics whether in the government or discharging their duties outside the government must not wash their dirty linen outside the confines of their own home.

Statements like 'reign in the Army and ISI' and 'won't bow to Army' are outdated and tribal in nature. Please move on from this mind set.
Can you also start to unveil your governance structure?

    Thank you

  3. Good plan. PTI can investigate our crooked politicians and forward the findings to election commission as well as to SC. This will give all accused a fair chance to clear themselves out (though I personally have no trust in the current Govt to implement any of EC or SC verdicts).

I hope even anti PTI/IK will agree with this approach (unless someone does not want to see any accountability of our looted wealth).

  4. Who will investigate the assets declared by Hamid Khan, the lawyer who made crores of rupees charging clients a hefty fee because of his claims for having a clout with judiciary.

  5. This man says that he is ready to form alliance with Nawaz Sharif and has already negotiated deal with Jamat-e-Islami? Was he not calling Nawaz a thief in his jalsa in Lahore? Why now talk about joining hands whom he called thief?

  6. now PTI is only force in the country after the Supreme Court, which can bring people of all provences togather under one agenda,it puts more responsibilities on PTI then ever before.

  7. Youth of Pakistan must be united on one point agenda that we would not except any ready made leaders, doesnt matter we belonge to PTI,PPP orPMLN,and doesnt matter
ready made leader is MAMZA SHAHBAZ,BILAWAL ZARDARI or SALMAN IMRAN.Why there is monorchy in political parties like we have in arab countries. We didnt have real democracy in the country because there is no democracy in our political parties where party leadership is inherited not politically transfered and party leadership make sure that the leadership stay within the family

  8. @ Masroor : Why dont you particiapte in election.

The issue with PTI is that when it looks for educated/non-political people for tickets, they do not have even social activity/gathering in their constituency.

So the option of old politician is there. Its very tricky situation. Literate people can easily say on forum that we dont need old politician, but himself he can do nothing.

You will be surprise to see this.
