Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF) has planned different activities to celebrate the World Science Day (WSD) on November 22. The WSD is observed all over the world on November 10 to mark the breath-taking achievements of humans in science and technology. Giving details of the event, PSF Chairman Dr Manzoor H Soomro said PSF observed the day every year in a befitting manner, but the event was delayed because of Eidul Azha and PSF would now mark the day on November 22. Now maximum number of people and students could actively participate in it, he said.
This year’s theme as declared by UNESCO is “World Science Day for Peace and Development – Towards Green Societies through Equity, Inclusiveness and Participation.” The major activities planned by PSF on this occasion include a seminar on WSD, awarding prizes to winners of science poster and other competitions etc and science caravan exhibitions in schools and colleges across the country, said Dr. Soomro. Federal Minister for Science and Technology Mir Changez Khan Jamali is likely to be the chief guest, while the initiator of WSD, eminent Pakistani Scientist Dr Ishfaq Ahmad along with other scientists would also participate in the event.
To achieve scientific development and use it for the betterment of mankind, Pakistan along with other countries of the world observes the “World Science Day for Peace and Development” on November 10 every year.
The purpose of World Science Day is to renew the commitment to science for peace and development and to stress the reasonable use of science for the benefit of society as postulated by the World Conference on Science in 1999. UNESCO during the General Conference at its 31st session (2001) had proclaimed November 10 each year as “World Science Day for Peace and Development”.
