The Lahore High Court (LHC), after prolonged delay of 20 years, heard a case regarding PML-N chief Mian Nawaz Sharif’s ineligibility over corruption charges here on Monday.
It’s worth mentioning that the plea was filed by Barrister Javed Iqbal Jaffri in 1991.
In his petition, Barrister Jaffri pleaded the court to formulate a full bench to hear the case arguing that Nawaz be declared ineligible for any public office due to corruption charges on him.
The complainant also pleaded for an urgent hearing of the case. He said that a full bench was formulated 20 years ago, but it could not proceed with the hearing.
In his remarks, Chief Justice LHC Ijaz Chaudhry said due to his nomination as a Supreme Court judge he could not hear the case. He said only the new chief justice of LHC was competent to constitute the bench.

  1. Even after 20 years, all the CJ LHC does is to ask the complainant to wait for the new CJ taking charge. Long live the independence of judiciary!
