‘Robber couple’ and ‘target killer’ among 10 arrested

Police arrested 10 people, including a robber couple, from different areas of the city on Sunday.
Shah Faisal Superintendent of Police Chaudhry Asad told the media that police have arrested nine criminals during raids in Korangi and recovered repeaters, rifles and various other weapons and ammunition from their possession.
The police also arrested an alleged target killer, Muslim Khan, from New Karachi and confiscated his arms and ammunition.
The Special Investigation Team of Saddar police arrested a couple, Umer Hayad and his wife Sherafa Bibi, from Gizri. The couple is believed to have committed 25 robberies in police bungalows located in posh areas of the city.
The police said that the couple had also committed robberies in others cities including Lahore, Gujranwala and Gojra.
FIRE: A fire erupted at KMC Market in Soldier Bazaar, reducing around 40 shops to ashes. Thirteen water tankers and two fire tenders were used to douse the flames in an effort that lasted more than three hours.
“It seems that the fire erupted due to a short circuit in the market,” said Chief Fire Officer Ehtisham.
RAILWAYS POLICE BUST GANG: The Railways police have busted a gang that robbed passengers on board trains, APP reported.
“We achieved a breakthrough on November 10 after arresting the key member of the gang identified as Umar Zaib alias Zaiboon from Landhi police jurisdiction,” said acting Railways, Karachi Division SP Jamshed Ahmed Butt.
Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, he said that Zaib shot a passenger Mohammed Ramzan on board the Fareed Express which was departing from the Landhi Railway Station at 9.15 pm on October 30. The passenger later expired in the hospital.
The alleged robber has deprived Ramzan of his two cell phones and cash and another passenger Mohammed Zahid of Rs 15,000 and fled after jumping off the moving train.
The police official said that another accomplice of Zaib, Badshahzada, was also absconding and both were residents of the Dawood Colony area of Landhi.
The victim, Ramzan, was working in the canteen of an English Karachi-based daily. He hailed from Vehari and was leaving for his hometown to celebrate Eidul Azha with his family.
“A pistol, some cash money, the victim’s wallet and his NIC copy were recovered from the Zaib when the police arrested him at Radio Pakistan Ground in Landhi area at 4 am on November 10,” the SP said.
The SHO of Landhi police station Arbab Solani, in whose jurisdiction the crime took place, said that two of the accomplices of the accused were already in jail and arrested in September for similar crimes. “They all hail from Swat,” he added.
He said that Zaib was also wanted in several other cases in his jurisdiction.
“FIR No 26/2011 under sections 392 and 302 of the PPC have been registered against the accused,” he said.
