PPP threatens agitation against Punjab govt

Accusing the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) of reviving its traditional retribution politics of the 90’s, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Sunday threatened to agitate on roads if victimisation of PPP leaders and workers does not stop.
Holding a joint press conference at the Lahore Press Club, PPP Punjab General Secretary Samiullah Khan and Adviser to the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) PM, Dewan Ghulam Mohaiyuddin alleged that political opponents were being victimisied by the Punjab government and fake cases registered against them. Samiullah said that if all fake cases against the PPP’s candidate for the AJK Legislative Assembly from Lahore were not withdrawn, the party would raise its voice at all forums, including the Punjab Assembly.
The PPP Punjab general secretary said that if the Sharif brothers desired early general elections in the country then they must hold elections for the AJK Legislative Assembly seat in Lahore. He said that owing to bad governance of the PML-N in Punjab, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) succeeded in holding a successful show in Lahore.
Samiullah said that on request of the Punjab government, election of LA-37 were postponed, which reflected the frustration and disappointment of the PML-N. The PPP leaders said that the PML-N, by registering fake cases against political opponents, had violated the Charter of Democracy (CoD) but the PPP could proudly say that there was no political prisoner during its tenure. Samiullah said that not even a single case was registered against political workers in the PPP’s regime but the PML-N was returning to its original and inherited politics.
Dewan said that a fabricated case of registering fake voters in the voters list was registered against him in the past and again another case was registered against him on the same charges. He alleged that he was compelled to join the PML-N otherwise election on the seat would never be conducted.
