Punjab University College of Information Technology (PUCIT) former principal Dr Majid Naeed was handed over for one-day physical remand to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Saturday.
Dr Majid will be produced in court on November 14 to obtain extension in his physical remand.Dr Majid is presently the computerization consultant of eight boards of intermediate and secondary education in Punjab. He was arrested while he was returning from the Lahore High Court, after he attended the hearing of a judicial commission, for inquiry into the failure of the online system that was prepared to hold the statistical data of secondary and intermediate examinations and results.
He has been arrested over the charges of misappropriation of Rs 27,97,850 from the Punjab University’s funds through misuse of authority. Dr Majid had withdrawn the said amount for personal use, while posted as the principal of PUCIT, from the university funds without the approval of a competent authority.
Earlier, the accused had filed an application in the accountability court under section 265-K P.P.C. seeking acquittal in the reference, submitting that he is innocent and clean handed. The court had dismissed the application filed by the accused on March 15.
