Aitchison College, a prestigious historic educational institution of South Asia renowned for producing leaders like Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf Chairman Imran Khan, slain Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti and various other dignitaries, is fast soiling its reputation after earning notoriety on various occasions. The most recent such incident was the staging of a musical show on college premises, without securing a no objection certificate (NOC), and nonpayment of the entertainment tax and security fee, which has inflicted irreparable damage to its image.
An application for registration of an FIR was filed by the Punjab Excise and Taxation Department (E & T) in Race Course Police Station. The case would in all likelihood be lodged on today (Monday). The department had reportedly sent a letter containing sections of violations, seeking details about the number of attendees, the length of the programme, the price of tickets, payment to the singer and the total expenditure of the musical show to the college. In light of the reply filed by the college, the department would impose an entertainment tax, slap fines, and issue a warning regarding the drastic action the repetition of such violations would prompt.
Aitchison College invited singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan on the foundation day event of the college on November 11. Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani also graced the college on November 12 to mark its foundation day.
It sold out tickets costing Rs 4000 each and paid a hefty amount to the singer for his performance. However, neither NCO was sought from department concerned nor did they pay 65 percent entertainment tax to the E & T Department, as per rules and regulations. On a tip, E & T Department officials raided the college but were not allowed to inspect the venue by the administration. An official at the college said that due to loose administration, Aitichsion College was falling to disrepute.
Last year, LHC sought reply from Aitchison’s administration on a writ petition moved by a minor student who was denied admission to the college in class K-5, despite the fact that the student had been a student of the college some years ago, he said.

  1. I know that in Aitchison there are 90% of the students have a relations in Bureaucratizes or in a high authority and others are trusties.. they have bad administration and fee up on the peek!!!!

  2. I was in Aitchison in the late 1950s. We had a towering personality as Principal. Such things never happened then. The problem is that an influential industrial family has planted a representative as Principal. The man, said to be an expert in accountacy knows little about running a Public School. He has landed the School in a mess.

    • Very true, sir. I myself am currently studying at the college and agree with you, this man does not know how to run a school and is merely just making money by extending the three schools, Junior, Prep and Senior.
