Punjab Education Minister Mujhtaba Shuja-ur-Rahman apologised to parents and students on errors in the intermediate examinations result, and said they would try to improve the examinations system in the future.
Rahman condemned PPP elements claiming that Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education’s (BISE) Information Technology (IT) Consultant Dr Majid Naeem was a relative of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Ishaq Dar, clarifying that Majid was no relation to Ishaq Dar and warned that his party would take legal action against those making such allegations in the future.
At a press conference at the Lahore Press Club, Rahman said the online system had been introduced for the betterment of students and the nation, and it was bad luck that the BISE authorities had not been able to implement the system properly. Higher Education Secretary Dr Ejaz Munir and various BISE officals were also present on the occasion.
He said there was no problem with the system, however, those operating it had not been able to handle it properly, and alleged that the BISE management was responsible for the results fiasco. He said they were investigating the elements responsible for the errors in the online system. He said it was not in the Higher Education Department’s (HED) knowledge if Majid was involved in corruption. He said they were trying to improve the examinations system with the help of experts.
Rahman said they had fulfilled the Punjab chief minister’s (CM) commitment to announce results within 45 days, adding that they would declare the Intermediate part-1 result on November 19. He said a visit of Lahore BISE for the media would be arranged, where they would be briefed about the working of BISE.
Rahman faced criticism from reporters demanding to know why the Punjab government had not taken matters seriously, and on how a criminal had been recruited as IT consultant. The education minister appeared confused over these questions and had difficulty satisfying the media.
