Take charge of your country, CM tells youth

Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has made an appeal to the youth to come forward for national development and progress and to play their due role for making Pakistan a corruption-free welfare state in accordance with the philosophy of Allama Iqbal. He was addressing an Iqbal Day function at Government Lahore College University for Women on Friday. Members National and Provincial Assembly, LCWU’s vice chancellor, Mass Communication Department Head Dr Anjum Zia and Protocol Officer Anwer Khan and a large number of students were present.
Speaking on the occasion, the CM said LCWU was a prestigious institution and its graduates have been playing an active role in various sectors of national development. He said Iqbal envisioned a separate homeland for the Muslims and Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah translated this dream into reality and millions of lives were sacrificed for achieving independence but the purpose of creation of Pakistan has not been achieved. He said justice, honesty and merit have been disregarded during the last 64 years, adding that loans and assistance worth $64 billion were received during the last 64 years but the destiny of the country had not changed and it was time to break the begging bowl. He said corruption, dishonesty and commission mafia will have to be uprooted for development and progress, adding that corrupt rulers had brought Pakistan to the verge of bankruptcy. He encouraged the youth to make use of their talents and to come forward and own the country, adding that women should be encouraged to play their role also. Earlier, Vice Chancellor Dr Sabiha Mansoor highlighted the academic activities and future programmes of the university.
