President Asif Ali Zardari directed the provincial government on Saturday to ensure that the renovation and extension work of the historic shrine of Lal Shahbaz Qalander in Sehwan Sharif is completed as soon as possible.
“The work on the shrine’s dome and the courtyard should be completed by January 30,” he instructed while presiding over a meeting at the Bilawal House.
He also directed the authorities concerned to maintain quality and transparency in the construction work and told the provincial government to ensure security and cleanliness in and around the shrine to facilitate the visitors and uphold the sanctity of the place.
Provincial ministers Pir Mazharul Haq, Murad Ali Shah, Ayaz Soomro, Jam Saifullah Dharejo, Sharjeel Memon, MNA Fauzia Wahab, Sharmila Farooqui and senior officials were present at the meeting.
The president stressed the need for preserving cultural monuments for researchers and for those who want to know, learn and experience the heritage and Sufism.
Zardari also asked the federal and the provincial governments to ensure release of the necessary funds needed for completion of the shrine’s renovation work.
During a meeting held earlier on the same subject, it was decided that both the federal and the provincial governments would share the cost of the work.
