The Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) and the Pakistan Youth Forum (PYF) organised an event titled “Spreading Smiles” on Saturday to mark the Universal Children’s Day, to be held on November 20, for promoting the
welfare of ailing children being treated at SIUT’s paediatric wards.
The staff and volunteers of SIUT and PYF entrancingly decorated the wards and thoroughly entertained the bedridden
children in the institute by arranging a vast array of fun-filled activities, including, among many others, face/hand
painting of multicoloured fancy designs and cartoon images as requested by children.
Exquisite magic shows were also arranged with a variety of spectacular and enthralling tricks that really captivated
the children, following a fabulous film session featuring latest phenomenal blockbuster animated film “Rio”, which
was displayed at the huge screen of the Agha Hassan Abidi Auditorium to the sheer delight of the children.
Moreover, to invigorate the aesthetic skills, different drawing and sketching exercises were carried out with the provision of plain pencils, coloured pencils, crayons and paints, etc.
To top it all off, sumptuous healthy refreshments and delightful gifts were distributed among all the children.
While speaking on the occasion, SIUT’s Prof Dr Anwar Naqvi stressed on the need of enhanced attention and investment
for the children in the form of time, quality education, good health, value building, etc.
“It shall be immensely beneficial as these children are the future of our country,” he added.
PYF representatives Sanam Ashraf, Tooba Hatif, Syed Fahad Ali and Syed Arsalan Ashraf also expressed their views at
the event. While highlighting the aims, visions and aspirations of the forum, they reiterated their commitment for similar programmes in the future.
SIUT’s Prof Dr Naqi Zafar welcomed the gathering and especially thanked the PYF members and the SIUT staff for their
contributions in ensuring a high-quality event.
The event turned out to be a huge success as the glowing faces and cheerful smiles of bedridden children reflected
the fact that the day was a very memorable and special experience for them, one which would be etched in their memories
forever.
