Committee for action against quacks formed: CM

The Punjab government has decided to launch a vigorous campaign to root out quackery from the province and a high level committee has been constituted to develop a strategy in this regard. This was decided in an emergency committee meeting presided over by Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif for reviewing measures for eradication of dengue, on Thursday.
Members of national and provincial assemblies, the chief secretary, various provincial secretaries and experts were present.
Addressing the meeting, the CM said quacks and fake hakims would not be allowed to play with human lives, adding that the elements involved in this heinous trade in the name of medicine deserve no leniency. He said the government had decided to take stern measures to eliminate quackery and the committee, headed by the chief secretary would devise an effective strategy for this purpose.
The additional chief secretary said data for the elimination of quackery had been collected and the registrar council had also been contacted in this regard.
Meanwhile, the Lahore commissioner apprised the meeting of the measures adopted by the Solid Waste Management Company for the disposal of animal waste over Eidul Adha. Various provincial secretaries informed about the performance of their departments regarding elimination of dengue and public awareness campaigns.
The CM added that the government had taken solid measures for controlling dengue and had ensured the provision of curative facilities to patients in hospitals.
He said besides short-term measures for the eradication of dengue, a long-term policy had also been formulated, under which immediate measures had been taken for research and training of doctors, nurses, entomologists and others abroad. He said the first group, comprising 110 people, would soon leave for Thailand where they would receive training on modern lines at the Asian Institute of Technology and other institutions in controlling dengue virus, treatment methods and other affairs.
Open kachehries to be held all over Punjab: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Shahbaz Sharif has directed ministers, advisors and parliamentarians to hold open kachehries across the province.
According to the notification issued by the CM’s secretariat, the area of responsibility of Member of National Assembly (MNA) Hamza Shahbaz Sharif would be Lahore, whereas Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan would hold open kachehry in Faisalabad. Minister for Prison Malik Iqbal Channer would hold open kachehry in Bahawalpur, Minister for Religious Affairs and Auqaf Haji Ehsanuddin Qureshi in Multan, Minister for Commerce & Industry Sardar Dost Muhammad Khosa in Dera Ghazi Khan only, Minister for Agriculture Malik Ahmad Ali Aulakh in Layyah and Muzaffargarh, Advisor to CM Begum Zakia Shahnawaz in Sargodha, Minister for Zakat and Ushr Malik Nadeem Kamran in Sahiwal, Minister for Food Abdul Ghafoor in Gujranwala except Sialkot and Narowal, Special Assistant to the CM Manshaullah Butt in Sialkot and Narowal, Advisor to the CM Raja Ashfaq Sarwar in Rawalpindi, Minister for Excise and Education Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman in Lahore and Minister for Human Rights and Minorities Kamran Michael would hold open kachehry in majority areas of minorities all over Punjab. The ministers, advisors and parliamentarians deputed were directed to hold open kachehries on a regular basis and to furnish the proceedings of these open kachehries to the CM’s secretariat on a regular basis for the CMs’ perusal.
