Tariq Nazeer, a 25-year-old resident of Ghaziabad, was found dead in canal, within Ichra Police precincts, on Thursday.
Tariq had died after receiving bullet injuries during an encounter with Muhafiz Squad officials of Harbanspura Police Area on November 5.
The police said that Tariq Nazeer along with his accomplices, including Zari Nawaz and Muhammad Jahangir had looted cash and mobile phones during 10 incidents of robberies in Cantonment Area within half an hour. The three men were escaping when officials of Muhafiz Squad intercepted them in Ghaziabad. The robbers opened fire on the policemen who fired in retaliation. During the encounter, policemen arrested Zari, while Tariq, who sustained bullet injuries during encounter, jumped into the canal in order to save his life. The third accomplice, Jahangir managed to escape from the scene. On Thursday, a passer-by spotted the body floating in canal, within the Ichra Police precincts. Rescue teams and police shifted the body to city morgue.
Woman dies under ‘mysterious circumstances’: A 24-year-old woman was found dead at her home under mysterious circumstances in the Hunjerwal police precincts on Thursday evening. Rizwana was the wife of Shahid and resident of 11-Kausar Block, Hunjerwal. Hunjerwal Police Sub-inspector Anwar said that the incident is mysterious as no marks of torture or fire were found on the victim’s body. He said the body has been taken to the morgue for autopsy and the cause of death would be ascertained after autopsy. No case has been registered yet.
Reckless driver runs over girl: A recklessly driven bus ran over a 16-year-old girl and crushed her to death in the limits of Ravi Road police on Thursday. Aneela Aslam was the daughter of Muhammad Aslam and resident of Township. According to police sources, Aneela and her brother Nazar Abbas were going home after attending a marriage ceremony in Shahdra, on a bike. They were hit from behind by a bus near the Timber market, Ravi Road. Aneela and her brother were taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead and her brother was said to be in critical condition. Police arrived at the accident scene and took the driver into custody.
Body of alleged ‘drug addict’ found: Batapur police recovered the body of a 40-year-old unidentified man on Thursday. Some locals spotted the body lying near main road and informed the police. Police suspected that the man was a drug addict and died of excessive use of drugs. The body was shifted to morgue for autopsy.
Fire engulfs cardboard factory: Fire erupted at a cardboard manufacturing factory situated on Walton Road, in the Factory Area Police precincts, on Thursday. The fire, caused by short-circuiting, erupted in shed 5 of the factory and reduced valuables worth millions of rupees into ashes, according to police sources.
