Rural women attract people with their craft

The exhibition of Eid and winter wears with other accessories for women and children is attracting a large number of visitors for preparations of Eidul Azha in the federal capital.
Rural women and home-based workers have displayed a collection of Eid and winter wear to celebrate Eid and winter season.
The show will continue till Eid featuring products created by the rural craftswomen including items related to women and children including dresses, handbags, home textiles and garments.
The event has been organised by Behbud Association of Pakistan, an NGO working with the aim of empowering women and their communities by providing health, education, income generation and vocational training.
The women artists were trained in the vocational centres to create items according to the fashion needs in order to get better sales and income generation.
The trainers of vocational training are supported through industrial homes established across the country to encourage employment for low income families in the field of garment making and traditional embroideries which are modernized into contemporary designs.
“The NGO has also setup a `Shop for a cause’ for rehabilitation of women belonging to the slum areas,” said Behbud Vice-president Abida Malik while talking to APP.
It focuses on socio-economic development of poor women in Pakistan with the objective of creating and sustaining self-reliance among poor households while the community members are also given awareness about gender and social issues and technical training of enterprise and marketing skills.
“The display includes a large variety of home textiles and embroidered fabrics that become a major attraction for visitors during the Eid shopping,” she said.
“Such exhibitions are a way of supporting the needy with respectful earning while the buyers also get better shopping opportunities at less price during the Eid days,” she said.
Besides creating a perfect extravaganza for buyers to celebrate the Eid festival and winter season in a colourful way, the show will also provide respectful earning for the rural class.
