During the past nine months, 40 police officers lost their lives in the line of duty in this violent city while at least 8,593 suspects were arrested in 390 encounters with the law enforcers, a Sindh Police spokesman announced on Friday. The police also recovered huge quantities of weapons and ammunition during raids in various parts of the province. “At least seven light machine guns, 164 rifles, 219 shot guns, 5,834 small arms including pistols, 450 hand grenades and 317 kilogrammes of explosives were seized from the accused,” he added.
The Crime Investigation Department (CID) was instrumental in busting gangs involved in heinous crimes. “During operations in Karachi only, 641 gangs were busted while the CID police helped in arresting three proclaimed offenders. Thirty more offenders were arrested while a large number of explosives and small arms were also seized from them.”
