The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Thursday approved a power tariff hike of Rs 1.77 per unit on a request by the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA). The power tariffs have been raised for the month of September.
According to NEPRA, tariff of power distributing companies had been reviewed upwards under monthly fuel adjustment, as electricity to the tune of 8.11 billion units was sold out to these companies during September. According to NEPRA sources, the electricity prices were raised due to soaring cost of furnace oil.
The recent hike is not applicable to Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) and lifeline users. It should be pertinent to note here that the CPPA pleaded NEPRA to raise tariff by Rs 1.80 per unit. NEPRA had earlier hiked power tariff by Rs. 5.08 for the months of July and August.
