The prime minister has extended one year time period for the old 500 rupee currency notes to be exchanged with the new ones, thus accepting the plea of various stakeholders and poor people living in far flung areas of the country where information reaches slowly. Indeed, it is a welcome move. Measures must be taken to gradually educate public about change of currency note through media, schools, post offices so that the information trickles down to the lower segments of society which do not have access to electronic and print media. It is hoped that hereafter sudden change of currency notes will be avoided.
