With MQM setting bar high, PPP keeps fingers crossed for its rally

The ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has geared up its efforts to ensure that its “Difa-e-Jamhooriat” rally on November 6 at Nishtar Park is successful.
The part is staging the rally to express solidarity with President Asif Ali Zardari in response to the opposition parties’ tirade against him.
PPP wings have started mobilising activists and supporters. Even though it is a big challenge for the PPP Sindh chapter to gather a crowd that matches the one that participated in the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM)’s successful pro-president rally on Sunday, it is expecting a large number of people from Sindhi- and Baloch-dominated areas including Malir, Lyari, Gulistan-e-Jauhar and Keamari to attend the event.
PPP Karachi chapter President Najmi Alam and others attended a general body meeting of the party’s Women Wing held at the People’s Secretariat on Wednesday. The meeting was convened to mobilise female activists of the party for the rally.
Speaking at the meeting, Alam said that the people of Karachi have always stood up for democratic movements in the country, and they will again come forward to support the PPP and foil all conspiracies.
PPP Women Wing President Farzana Baloch hoped that the party’s female activists and supporters will come out of their houses on November 6 to support democracy and thwart anti-democratic moves.
The wing’s Information Secretary Shamim Mumtaz, Noor Jahan Baloch, Najma Saeed Chawla and Shahida Rahmani also spoke on the occasion.
