In order to strengthen capacities in the fields of social sciences, arts and humanities, five public sector universities on Wednesday agreed to form the country’s first ever Inter University Consortium for promoting the stated objectives. The decision was made recently made by the vice-chancellors of University of Gujrat, Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad, Islamia University Bahawalpur, Institute of Managements Sciences Peshawar and Government College University Faisalabad. The areas of cooperation under the consortium will include faculty development/exchange as adjunct faculty members, exchange of students & publications, joint research projects (each university would work in its respective geographical area), joint linkages with other international and national organisations and joint seminars/conferences and workshops and other programmes of mutual interest.
A formal MOU signing ceremony would be held soon. The vice-chancellors hoped that the step would be greatly helpful in improving the state of social sciences in the country and will bring the social scientists of various areas closer to one another to undertake joint programmes aiming at socio-economic development of country, effective university community linkages and promotion of the values of peace, tolerance and active citizenship. Murtaza Noor will act as focal person for facilitation in the whole process.
