After spending a day and a harsh winter night outside the Parliament House, the families of missing persons called off protest on Wednesday after Enforced Disappearance Commission head Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal assured them of his commitment to their cause.
The families held a 24-hour sit-it that started on Tuesday morning. They were protesting against the apathy of the government towards their ordeal in the wake of the ‘forced’ disappearances of their loved ones. On Wednesday, however, after an assurance from Justice (retd) Javid Iqbal they called off their protest.“We are going to end our protest since Mr Javed Iqbal has assured us that the families of the missing persons would soon see a breakthrough,” said Amna Massod Janjua, the chairperson of Defence of Human Rights.
