Visually impaired people can play a vital role in the progress of the country, but they need special attention of the government and people as well.
These views were expressed by speakers at a national seminar on ‘The Rights of Visually Impaired” organised by the Directorate General of Special Education and Social Welfare in collaboration with Sight Savers International to mark international White Cane Safety Day.
Speaking on the occasion, Special Education Director General Mustafa Kazmi highlighted the issues being faced by visually impaired people. “We are well aware of visually impaired people.
The directorate is doing whatever it can for the welfare of such people,” he claimed. He said that at international level the government had signed a number of agreements with other countries aiming to facilitate visually impaired people.
“Pakistan has signed UN Convention on Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
This has been rectified by the government of Pakistan,” he added. The event was attended by dozens of visually impaired people, including a good number of children. They also spoke on the occasion and told the audience how they had achieved successes in various fields despite being visual impaired.
