Fast bowler Mohammad Asif was found guilty by a British court Tuesday of conspiring to accept corrupt payments in a “spot-fixing” betting scam.
The 28-year-old was earlier found guilty by the jury at Southwark Crown Court in London on a separate count of conspiring to cheat at gambling.
The six men and six women on the jury found him guilty by a majority verdict of 10 to two on the corrupt payment charge, which carries a maximum sentence of seven years’ imprisonment.
The jurors reached a unanimous decision to find him guilty on the cheating charge, which carries a maximum punishment of two years.
Judge Jeremy Cooke told the jury their task was now complete, saying he hoped they found the case challenging and interesting.
