ISLAMABAD – Four workers drowned on Sunday after falling into the water tank of a paper factory, police said.
The horrifying incident took place at Unitel Disposal Factory, situated in Model Town Humak within the precincts of Sihala Police Station.
Police said a worker Shahid Farooq, while cleaning the upper portion of a 15-feet deep tank, slipped after which three of his colleagues jumped into tank to rescue him, but all of them died on the spot. The tank was full with water containing chemicals, which is used in the paper-making process.
The investigation officer, Sub-inspector Basharat Shah, said two other labourers received injuries, as they tried to recover the bodies. The deceased were identified as Naeem Shahzad, Ayaz Gul, Shahid Farooq and Waseem in their early 20s, while the two injured included Saqlain Babar and Aqeel. The sub-inspector said the injured were out danger and the dead bodies had been shifted to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences for autopsy, adding that the police had started investigation into the incident.
