In what seems to be confusion in Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) ranks over its anti-Zardari campaign, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Saturday announced that the PML-N would expand the ‘Go Zardari Go’ movement to the entire country, but his party colleague and leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said the PML-N did not want to topple the government or remove President Asif Zardari from office.
Talking to reporters in Bahawalpur after offering condolence to MNA Waleezur Rehman over the demise of his father, former MNA Aqeelur Rehman, Shahbaz said the “Go Zardari Go” movement would be organised in all districts and arrangements were being made to expand the movement to the entire country. However, contrary to the Punjab CM’s announcement, Nisar told reporters at a ceremony organized by Transparency International-Pakistan in Islamabad that his party had been forced to come on the streets because of the government’s negligence in resolving public issues.
Nisar said his party’s target was wrong policies, not President Zardari or to topple the government. He said the tenure of a government is determined by its performance, adding that the intervention of undemocratic forces in the political process will be dangerous and the PML-N would oppose an undemocratic power intervention. He said his party was struggling against the gas and electricity outages, inflation and corruption.
