LAHORE – PIA flight number PK 1458 returning to Lahore from Jeddah landed safely in spite of airport control tower’s warning that one of the engines of the aircraft was on fire. However there was no fire on the aircraft, which carried no passengers, the PIA spokesman said on Saturday.
He said the control tower cautioned the captain about that it suspected smoke in one of the engines which was not being indicated on the cockpit panel. However, after landing safely the aircraft followed normal safety procedure and was now being fully checked. The initial report of the ground engineers was that “they did not notice any smoke or fire on the aircraft engine”.
According to the standard operating procedure, the aircraft will now have to go through a complete check for safety reasons and would be again operational in three to four hours. Press Release
