City govt starts road safety course for teachers

The City District Government of Karachi (CDGK)’s road safety education course for schoolteachers started on Saturday.
Speaking as the chief guest of the opening ceremony of the training course, Executive District Officer Transport Mohammad Ather said that the CDGK has started the programme for teachers of primary and secondary school schools located in different towns to help them teach road safety rules to schoolchildren
“This way, road accidents can be curtailed as many accidents involve children,” he added. “Deaths and injuries caused by road accidents should be treated as seriously and the city government’s Transport Department will take all required preventive measures for the safety of children on roads”
UK-trained road safety expert Sattar Javaid while conducting the course gave a detailed presentation to teachers identifying the problems being faced by children on road and their solutions. He advised teachers to teach children road safety rules according to their age and capability so that they are able to understand the safety codes and use the roads safely.
District Officer Road Safety Amir Hussain said that the CDGK’s Transport Department will continue its programme and gradually cover all schools of Karachi.
