The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is using derogatory language in its campaign against the federal government, which is not suitable for civilised leadership of the country, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Aitzaz Ahsan said on Friday.
He was talking to journalist after attending a condolence reference in memory of Mother of Democracy Begum Nusrat Bhutto, which was organised by the People’s Lawyers’ Forum. Aitzaz said that although he was not in favour of rallies but it was the PML-N’s constitutional right to organise protests. He said that ‘Go Zardari Go’ was not a movement but only a slogan. The PPP leader said that if the PML-N wanted a change in the federal government, it should follow the constitutional way and bring a no-confidence motion against the federal government or wait for all assemblies to complete their tenure.
The renowned legal and constitutional expert said that President Asif Ali Zardari was an elected president and the Punjab CM made an unreasonable statement by saying that he did not accept Zardari as president. Aitzaz said that the president could be criticised politically.
Earlier, addressing the condolence reference, the PPP leader paid rich tributes to Nusrat Bhutto and said that she struggled a long way and faced hardships with courage. He said that she was rightly titled as mother of democracy. Aitzaz said that martial law could not be imposed in the country due to the role and verdicts of the Supreme Court. Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Asma Jahangir shared her personal memories of Nusrat and said that it was regrettable that some political leaders tormented the mother of democracy during her fight for democracy in times of dictatorship. She said that all those parties and leaders, who criticised Nusrat, should apologise on their unjustified and undemocratic attitude toward her. PPP Punjab President Imtiaz Safdar Warriach, Ahsan Bhoon, Munir A Malik, Yasin Azad, Rashid A Rizvi, Hamid Khan and others also attended the reference.
