Rejecting the judicial inquiry report conducted by Justice Hashim Kakar on the Kharotabad incident, involving killing of five Chechen citizens including a pregnant woman, the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Human Rights on Friday sought debate on the issue in the House as well as punishment for the culprits. Security personnel had killed five foreigners including three women on May 17 this year in Kharotabad area of Quetta.
The Balochistan government, on May 20, formed a commission, headed by Balochistan High Court Judge Hashim Kakar, to investigate the incident. The judicial tribunal suspected the victims were trained terrorists. Some parts of the tribunal’s report which were made public had suggested no action against the officials responsible for the killing of five foreigners at a public place. The tribunal, on the accounts of evidence, suspected that all five foreigners were trained terrorists and had active links with some banned terrorist organisations operating in Pakistan.
The committee held in the light of various reports that the foreigners killed by law enforcement agencies were not terrorists.
