Lahore High Court (LHC) Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed on Friday issued notice to former Punjab chief minister Dost Mohammad Khosa on a habeas corpus petition for the recovery of Sapna Khan, said to be wife of Khosa, and her daughter. The court also sought reply from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader who allegedly married the film actress from Mardam who came to Lahore to work in films and later, following an estrangement between the couple mysteriously disappeared. Her family alleged she had been detained and murdered by Khosa.
The petition was filed by the Judicial Activism Panel through its chairman Azhar Siddique. On the previous hearing, LHC had sought the assistance of a law officer on a legal point: whether a person other than the relatives of a detainee could file a case for his/her (detainee’s) recovery. The Punjab government, however, did not file any reply on this legal point. However, Hina Khan, sister of detainee Sapna Khan, filed her affidavit before the court.
The judge adjourned hearing and issued a notice to Sardar Dost Mohammad Khosa for November 16.
The petitioner stated that the woman had allegedly been beaten and kidnapped by friends of Khosa from GOR on June 22. Since then there have been no clues about her whereabouts.
The petitioner said a news item about the incident had been published in a local daily on July 7, and it remained un-contradicted. He said Hina Khan had also written a letter to the chief justice of Pakistan for the recovery of her sister.
