Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif called upon President Zardari to resign while addressing the PML-N anti-government rally at Bhati Gate on Friday. The rally started from the Nasser Bagh and was led by various PML-N leaders.
Shahbaz said Zardari was depositing the nation’s wealth in Swiss bank accounts and the time had come for him to be held accountable for his actions. He sent a message to President Zardari that he could not buy PML-N workers.
He added that during the tenure of this government, PIA and Pakistan Railways had been ruined and officials in the government were highly corrupt.
“If we can defeat Dengue, Zardari we can defeat you” Shahbaz said adding that the president was not aware of the people’s problems and was only concerned about accumulating money.
Pakistan, he said, is witnessing that the sea of people gathered here in Lahore today is ready for the final showdown. He said that Pakistan Railways, PIA, Steel Mills and every other public institution is in the grips of corruption and commission mafia.
He prompted the participants to raise ‘Go Zardari Go’ slogans and also recited the ‘Mein nahin manta… I don’t recognize’, a poem by revolutionary poet Habib Jalib.
The city of Lahore had been draped with giant hoardings, banners, posters and fliers, presenting an atmosphere of elections before the rally.
Strict security arrangements were put in place on the occasion and some 2, 500 Punjab Police personnel were stationed in the city.
