The US Agency for International Development (USAID) is providing financial and technical assistance to various sectors in Pakistan with special focus on agriculture, energy and women empowerment. This was stated by USAID Mission Director Andrew Sisson at a luncheon hosted by the Lahore Stock Exchange (LSE).
Andrew Sisson was accompanied by US Consul General at Lahore Ms Nina M Fite, Director Provincial Mission to Punjab Ted Gehr, Deputy Director Provincial Mission to Punjab Gail Spence, USAID Washington Larry Garber, Senior Development Advisor Sajjad Moghal and USAID Pakistan Alex Jhier. Addressing the occasion, Sisson mentioned that dairy products, energy sector, women rights and education were key areas where of USAID involvement in Pakistan. He informed the audience that projects in the energy sector were 95 per cent complete. He said USAID funding has been suspended in Punjab, following the provincial government’s refusal to accept American aid.
It is worth mentioning that USAID was supporting some 400 schools in southern Punjab prior to the suspension, and the support has been withdrawn. The lunch was attended by members of the LSE, leading industrialists and prominent business figures, who discussed various ideas and investment opportunities available in the country with the delegates. At the end of the lunch the dignitaries were presented mementos by LSE Chairman Aftab Ahmed Khan.
Will Kadim-i-Aala Punjab will divert some funds from his brainchild' Danish Schools' to these poor schools.
