Strongman’s violent end

Libyan strongman Muammar Qaddafi met a violent end. It was very sad, horrific and inhumane the way how National Transitional Council (NTC)’s fighters murdered him. They made fun of his corpse.

If we look at his 42 years rule, he did many good things for Libyan people. During his tenure he nationalised oil companies, made Libya the state of masses and provided free electricity and free health services to the people of Libya. People were getting interest free loan from Libyan government.

If we talk about change, wave of change didn’t come out from Libyan people. Majority didn’t oppose Muammar Qaddafi. It is said that change has come with the will of West and NATO. NATO forces backed NTC and after eight months’ brutal fighting they succeeded to achieve their aim. And thus after spending 69 years on the stage of the world, the strongman met atrocious death.

He was a close friend of Pakistan. Pakistan had strong ties with Libya, especially during Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s tenure. He was also a stern supporter of Kashmiri people.

In his address to United Nations General Assembly in 2009, Qaddafi said “Kashmir should be an independent state, not Indian, not Pakistani. We should end this conflict.”

Although he was a “hero-turned-tyrant”, his violent killing is condemnable. It is an act of open terrorism and should not be supported. It is welcoming to note that at least Amnesty International and United Nations are seeking independent and impartial probe to the dreadful incident. NTC fighters did inhumane act by murdering Qaddafi. He could have been brought to a court for trial.
