Railways destroyed for personal gains: CJ

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has said that Pakistan Railways has been destroyed for personal gains.
Supreme Court (SC) took suo motu case of the non-payment of salaries and pensions to Railways employees on Friday.
During the course of the hearing, CJP remarked Railways is a commercial department and it should generate its own resources. Non-payment of pension was a sheer violation of fundamental rights of pensioners, he said.
Railways land is being sold out. If salaries are not disbursed to Railways staff then payment of salaries to Railway officers will also be ceased, he further remarked.
Reprimanding Railways secretary on the destruction of railway department, CJP expressed grave concern over non-appearance of Railways chairman in the court.
CJP also issued orders for opening pensioners’ account in the bank branches located close to their homes. Railways secretary said on the occasion that talks were underway with NLC on the matter of repairs of engines.
