The National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) has received Rs 274 million from the Pakistan Railways (PR) and pension disbursement operation has been running smoothly after the release of funds, said NBP Executive Vice President Khalid Mahmood on Thursday.
While addressing a news conference, Khalid said that the NBP shall ensure disbursement of all outstanding payments, including October pensions, before Eid-ul-Azha. He offered condolence on the behalf of NBP president and management to the grieved family of late Mahmood Khan, who lost his life while waiting outside NBP for the payment of pension.
Khalid said that the NBP officials were working beyond call of duty and banking hours to provide maximum facilitation to the pensioners. He said that NBP had been disbursing pensions to around 2.3 million pensioners since last 49 years, but such unfortunate incident had never happened earlier. “NBP is disbursing pensions on the behalf of PR, but it could not be blamed for mismanagement as it can only make payment if it gets funds,” he maintained.
Nisar assures support: Opposition leader in National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said on Thursday that the government was engaged in corruption and completely indifferent to the sufferings of the poor.
