Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) minorities legislator from Punjab Assembly Pervez Rafique has written a letter to former Lahore High Court chief justice Khawaja Sharif asking him why he decided to become counsel for Salmaan Taseer’s murderer Mumtaz Qadri.
Strongly reacting to Sharif’s accepting to become Qadri’s advocate, he said the ex-CJ must respond to questions from Pakistan’s minorities who did not expect such a sectarian gesture from a former judge. He said minorities had been patriotic Pakistanis throughout the Pakistan movement and had contributed to the country. He said minorities felt confident when slain Punjab governor Salmaan Taseer asked for amendments to sections of blasphemy law to prevent misuse against minorities by extremists. He asked Sharif why he chose to act against the oath he had taken to safeguard the law and constitution of Pakistan.
